About reindeers and larch forests..

The area of origin of Mongolia, lies somewhere in the north, between taiga and grasslands. Two things are characteristic of the northern Mongolia, the Selenge and the Khuvsgul Lake. The Selenge is the largest river in this area and also the largest inflow of Lake Baikal. When Khuvsgul, the Mongols speak reverently of their sea and you can see him as the little brother of Lake Baikal. A geological perspective, the two lakes have the same origin. In northern Mongolia are extensive larch forests and has especially in the fall here feel like being in the Siberian taiga. Northwest of the Khuvsgul, is the southernmost reindeer area. Farther north, there is the Khuvsgul Lake. Around this lake, a nature reserve has been established in recent years. The lake is with its southern shore between two mountain ranges, which are passed to the tree line with Larch trees. Many Mongolians love to spend the summer months at this very clear lake. The north is unusually ethnologisch not homogeneous. Here you can find many different ethnic groups. In the border region with Russia, there are the last reindeer breeders and especially interesting is the settlement area of the Tsaatan. Not only because they move north-most in Mongolia, but they are also practicing shaman. The shaman with his many tasks manages the Trance contact with the world of spirits. The North

Taiga, mountains and lakes..

The northern Mongolia is dominated by a magnificent lake scenery. The Khovsguul Lake is the little brother of Lake Baikal and it is the largest freshwater lake in the country. The Mongols call him affectionately as her sea. Around this pond, a nature reserve was established to preserve this unique landscape for future generations in recent years. However, the area around the Khovsguul also belongs to one of the least developed regions of Mongolia. Some regions on the lake can be only little-used pistes reach, but the troubles of arrival are paid by the beautiful landscape. Pine forests, larch and Taiga show the visitor that here Siberia is not far off.

The tribe of the Tsaaten, has lived in the region around the lake Khovsguul. These are the last reindeer nomads in Mongolia. Actually, the origin of Tsaaten in Tuva, the western Siberian province of Russia. The Tsaaten have not changed with their lifestyle for centuries. Nature Religion and shamanism are still living tradition.

The remaining route to the Khovsgol Nuur Terchin Tsagaan, performs the most authentic scenery in the country. Shortly before the Tsagaan Nuur Terchjin leads the tour through a nearly 2,500 m high pass. Another highlight of this tour is the area around the Tsagaan Nuur Terchjin. This area is an old volcanic landscape with bizarre rock formations. By Lava, several small caves have emerged that serve as a natural icehouse. You will ascend the volcano Khorgo. Only by the eruption of the volcano, the Tsagaan Nuur Terchjin has emerged in its current form.

Other interesting points on this trip is the Chuluut river, which has its riverbed cut by the lava from the volcano Khorgo and the "Tree of the 1000 branches", which is located near the river Chuluut.

On this trip we will also visit the historic landscape in the Orkhon valley. This valley has been chosen not only by Chingges Khan for his capital Kakrakorum, but also long before the time of Chingges Khan settled here different ethnic groups. On the way to Karakorum, we arrive at the Palace "Chöschöö Tsaidam", an old Turkish palace ruins over. Here a project funded by Turkey, an excavation project is conducted.

The combination of days off and days of driving, this trip makes for a recreation tour through Mongolia. In the end you rather adapts the Mongolian understanding of time and leaves a lot of time for exploring the countryside and experience nature.
