The area of origin of Mongolia, lies somewhere in the north, between taiga and grasslands. Two things are characteristic of the northern Mongolia, the Selenge and the Khuvsgul Lake. The Selenge is the largest river in this area and also the largest inflow of Lake Baikal. When Khuvsgul, the Mongols speak reverently of their sea and you can see him as the little brother of Lake Baikal. A geological perspective, the two lakes have the same origin. In an outlying side valley of the Orchon, is one of the most beautiful monasteries in Mongolia, the monastery Amarbayasgalan (Happy Retirement). In this monastery lived more than 8000 monks. The northern Mongolia is dominated by a magnificent lake scenery. The Khovsguul Lake is the little brother of Lake Baikal and it is the largest freshwater lake in the country. The Mongols call him affectionately as her sea. Around this pond, a nature reserve was established to preserve this unique landscape for future generations in recent years. However, the area around the Khovsguul also belongs to one of the least developed regions of Mongolia. The tribe of the Tsaaten, has lived in the region around the lake Khovsguul. These are the last reindeer nomads in Mongolia. Shortly before the Tsagaan Nuur Terchjin leads the tour through a nearly 2,500 m high pass. Another highlight of this tour is the area around the Tsagaan Nuur Terchjin. This area is an old volcanic landscape with bizarre rock formations. By Lava, several small caves have emerged that serve as a natural icehouse. You will ascend the volcano Khorgo. Only by the eruption of the volcano, the Tsagaan Nuur Terchjin has emerged in its current form.
Other interesting points on this trip is the Chuluut river, which has its riverbed cut by the lava from the volcano Khorgo and the "Tree of the 1000 branches", which is located near the river Chuluut.
