Karakorum and more…
The Mongolian empire under Chinggis Khan was the biggest ever existing empire in the world. The core of it's power was the city of Karakorum, founded under Chinggis and further expanded under his successors. In Karakorum Chinggis united scientist, artists and experts of all fields. Imagine a colorful gathering of many nations. The key to his success was the „ pax Mongolica“ (Mongolian peace) which granted stable social, cultural and economic conditions and lead to the power of Karakorum. Situated in the meadows and pastures of his third son, Chinggis founded Karakorum in 1220. Initially only a camp of gers and a garnison, it quickly evolved into a fortified city under Ögödej Kkan. Not far from Karakorum lays another historic sight, the tombs of Bilge Khan and his brother Kuliegin. Today one would call them „warlords“ as they served different regional groups during the wars. Two pillars describe in two languages the heroic acts of the brothers. In close proximity archaeological excavations discovered one of four turtles carved in stone. The turtle is a symbol for power and longevity and plays an important role in Mongolian believes. Another important sight in this region is “Chöschöö Tsaidam”. It is the furthers eastern finding of Turk traces in Asia and therefore an important location of the roots of all Turk folks. At the end of this trip you'll discover the region around the lake Ogii nuur. Situated in an amazing landscape it is another example of the richness of Mongolian nature. On it's strands live nomadic families that maintain a close friendship with Steppenfuchs for many years. You'll have the opportunity to take part in their day life and discover and understand the habits of the nomadic life. )
