Anflug nach Lhasa der tibetanischen Hautstadt. Wir werden von Frankfurt mind. 14 eher 17 Stunden mit einmal Umsteigen unterwegs sein. Das Gepäck kann auf dem Flug durchgescheckt werden. In Lhasa werden wir am Flughafen erwartet und zum Hotel in der Stadt gebracht. Dort erstmal eine etwas längere Erholungspause um den Höhenunterschied zu verkraften. Lhasa liegt auf 3.650 m.N.N. Am Nachmittag erkunden wir die Stadt. | ||||||

Diesen Tag verbringen wir hauptsächlich bei den chinesischen Behörden, um die notwendigen Formalitäten für das Motorradfahren in Tibet zu erledigen. Dazu gehört auch die Ausstellung eines chinesischen Führerscheins im Expressverfahren. Je nachdem wie lange die Prozedur dauert, haben wir am Nachmittag noch etwas Zeit die Stadt auf eigene Faust zu erkunden. | ||||||

Alle Formalitäten sind jetzt erledigt und wir haben Zeit uns genauer mit Lhasa zu befassen. Im Vordergrund steht der aus jedem Winkel der Stadt zu sehende Potala-Palast. Das wird den gesamten Vormittag verbrauchen um den Palast zu erkunden. Dann geht es zum Jokhang-Tempel und zum berühmten Sear-Kloster. Dann ist aber auch Schluss mit dem Klöstern und Museen. | ||||||

Nach der langen Anreise, dem Eingewöhnen und der Administration, heute der erste Fahrtag. Wir verlassen Lhasa und fahren nach Shigatse, der zweitgrößten Stadt Tibets. Der erste Ort, den wir erreichen, ist der Yamdrok-See (Höhe: 4.400 m), einer der drei heiligen Seen in Tibet. Während wir unsere Fahrt durch die tibetische Hochebene fortsetzen, kündigen Gebetsfahnen die Ankunft am Karola-Gletscher (5.045 m) an, wo wir den Schnee schon aus ein paar hundert Metern Entfernung neben der Straße sehen können. Von dort aus fahren wir in die historische Stadt Gyantse, bevor wir in unserem Hotel in Shigatse ankommen. | ||||||

Unser Tag beginnt mit einem Besuch des offiziellen Sitzes des Panchen Lama: Das Tashilhunpo-Kloster. Dieses Kloster beherbergt eine der grössten Klosteruniversitäten zur Ausbildung buddhistischer Gelehrter der Gelug-Schule. Die über 26m hohe Statue eines sitzenden Buddhas ist die zweithöchste in einer Halle sitzende Buddhastatue der Welt. Wir werden die Gelegenheit haben, durch die kopfsteingepflasterten Gassen zu spazieren und die Hallen und Kapellen dieser kulturell wichtigen Stätte zu besuchen. Später am Tag werden wir durch die Bergwelt des Himalayas nach Tingri fahren. Übernachtung in Tingri. | ||||||

Heute Morgen fahren wir zum Gyawu-La-Pass (5.198 m), der immer höher liegt. Von hier aus haben wir eine herrliche Aussicht auf 4 berühmte Gipfel, nämlich den Makalu (8.463m), den Lhotse (8.561m), den Everest (8.844m) und den Cho Oyu (8.201m). Unsere Fahrt geht weiter zum Rongbuk-Kloster, dem höchsten Kloster der Welt und dem besten Aussichtspunkt auf den Mount Everest. Danach fahren wir auf dem gleichen Weg zurück nach Tingri. Heute Morgen fahren wir durch die ländliche Gegend nach Damxung und weiter über Yangpachen. Die Graslandschaften erstrecken sich über Dutzende von Kilometern auf beiden Seiten der Straße, manchmal werden Sie wahrscheinlich eine prärieähnliche Szene mit Schafen und Yaks sehen, die auf der Wiese Gras fressen. Am Morgen werden wir zum Namtso-See fahren. Zunächst erreichen wir ein Land voller bunter Gebetsfahnen – den Tanggula View Point. Dann werden wir den Nagen-La-Pass (5.190 m) passieren. Unser nächstes Ziel ist der Namtso-See, einer der drei heiligen Seen in Tibet. Es sieht so aus, als ob das Wasser mit dem Himmel verschmilzt und die gleiche Farbe hat. Danach fahren wir zurück nach Lhasa, um unsere Motorräder zurückzugeben. Übernachtung in Lhasa. | ||||||

Früh am Morgen, Flughafentransfer zum neuen Flughafen von Ulaanbaatar. Sie werden von unserem Fahrer ca. drei Stunden vor Abflug von Ihrer Unterkunft Abgeholt. Da die Stadt zu dieser Stunde noch schläft, geht die Fahrt zügig voran. Am Flughafen der übliche Prozedere, Einchecken und dann geht es zurück in die Heimat.
